Lecture 2 - Site 7 Scales

Production is a factor of SCALE. There are seven scales used by the professions in the build environment.

The smallest or the most initial state of the scale is the object...each scale will then develope into bigger scale, and acquires higher standards and skills in the industry. A bigger scale originates from a smaller scale...just like what we've learned in primary..ascending numbers.

The seven scales have to be looked at a detailed manner. Scale 1 to 6 may be detailed out by students. However the seventh scale is indicated by a question of HOW DO WE LOOK AT THIS WORLD?!?!

Do u look at it in a EUROCENTRIC VIEW?

Or the Buckminster Fuller's view...or fondly known as BUCKY BALL view? (pssst..You gotta tilt your head a little ler...)

The earth is being overpopulated now, an the beings living on earth are mainly exploiting her on a daily basic for the sake of gold and glory. These earthlings are not contented with what they already have and keep on seeking 'treasures' from motherearth's body... How do earth stand such cruelty? How can she sustain so much injuries made by her subjects? Are we human beings taking earth for granted? Creating and developing earth which we thought would be for the better in future when actually it's leading to destructon. One day DOOMSDAY will arrive for us all...(BRRR...scary...)
CikWan related the lesson with an article bearing the term IATROGENOCIDE.

What is the meaning of ' iatrogenocide'?
IATROGENOCIDE is caused by treatment or diagnostic procedures. An iatrogenic disorder is a condition caused by medical personnel or procedures or through exposure to the environment of a health care facility, including fears instilled in patients by remarks or questions of examining physicians.

A recent study published in The Journal of The American Medical Association (2000:284:94) by Barbara Starfield, MD, MPH, showed that in the U.S. there are:
· 12,000 deaths/year from unnecessary surgery·

7,000 deaths/year from medication errors in hospitals·

20,000 deaths/year from other errors in hospitals·

80,000 deaths/year from nosocomial infections in hospitals·

106,000 deaths/year from adverse effects of medications

This totals 225,000 deaths per year from iatrogenic causes, placing iatrogeny as the third leading cause of death in the U.S., second only to heart disease and cancer. The scary part is that this does not include disabilities and disorders; just deaths in hospitalized patients. In any event, when one ponders that more than four times as many people die in one year from doctors' mistakes than died in the entire Vietnam War, one is aghast at why this information isn't making headlines or why huge think tanks funded by medicopolitical interests haven't formed.

would all this deaths caused due to NEGLIGENCE?hmm...something to ponder about. could it be just a new way discovered by the 'clever ones' to reduce the earth population? perhaps so... Just imagine...how can earth support herself if almost 50% of the population are merely parasites, doing nothing beneficial for her, merely eating everyday and using up the natural resources. Perhaps IATROGENOCIDE is not a bad thing after all.. It helps minimize earth population. And perhaps also in future iatrogenocide would be a lawful and legal action carried out by governmental bodies to eradicate..to remove useless and unwanted human being from earth.

would you support IATROGENOCIDE? which means the extermination of a population in a systematic fashion through medical error.

Lecture 1 - Production Model

What is Production? Based on the sixth edition of Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, Production means 1. the process of growing or aking food, goods, or materials especially in large quantities; 2. the quantitiy of goods that is produced; 3. the act or process of making something naturally; 4. a film/movie, a play or a broadcast that is prepared for the public; the act of preparing a film or a play. The best definition for production in this lecture would be the act or process of making something naturally.

Production Model comprises six fundamental elements, namely the intention, act, product, actor, rule and the site. All six elements are interdependent on one another. We human beings as the actor has the intention to create a product on a certain site. One must therefore act following the rules and regulation to accomplish his/her goal ( product). For example, in the construction industry, a client/developer(actor) develop an intention to build a building(product). Such an intention would requires the client to determine a suitable site for construction. The labours (actor) will follow the rules or orders from their supervisor and then complete the building(product)

Rule is an ideology or and understanding of a specific matters.
Altruism- there is no right or wrong.

Cynism- everything is wrong (They believed that the world belonged equally to everyone, and that suffering was caused by false judgments of what was valuable and by the worthless customs and conventions which surrounded society.)

Relativism- everything is right.

Truth-seekerism - we shall and we must seek the truth.

Taoism- emptiness, detachment, receptiveness, spontaneity, the strength of softness, the relativism of human values, and the search for a long life.

Question: what is the ism for " there is right and wrong"?

My -ism is absolutism
Absolutism – the position that in a particular domain of thought, all statements in that domain are either absolutely true or absolutely false: none is true for some cultures or eras while false for other cultures or eras. These statements are called absolute truths.

That concludes the post for today. =)

Virtual Construction

Things to do:-
1. Get a free virtual site where what you understand by the Built Environment and Human Settlements may be built, maintained and accessed by anyone.
2. Visit http://groups.google.com/group/alambina2008 and ensure that you can send the following info:
a. full name
b. matric card number
c. your site address: http//www....
